Scubuntu - Ubuntu for Scientists

The project

The aim of the Scubuntu project is to develop a flavour of Ubuntu Linux for use by scientists. The vision of the project is that Scubuntu (and thus Ubuntu) will become the premier choice of desktop operating system for researchers and scientists. Scubuntu is being developed as a true Ubuntu remix and all work is released as OSS. Scubuntu differs from the standard Ubuntu desktop in that it directly support scientists by providing applications to assist them in conducting research. read more >>

The name

Why Scubuntu? The name Scubuntu is derived from Science and Ubuntu. We originally liked a number of others, including scibuntu, but that name were already taken by another project.
