MyAIDSnexus

The UK Consortium for AIDS and Development worked in partnership with metaLAB to facilitate the design, build and soft launch a first live version of The MyAIDSNexus information service for the AIDSPortal2 Initiative. The plan is that this service will be soft-launched in May/June 2009.

MyAIDSNexus is a new way to empower individuals with personal and professional interests in HIV&AIDS. For AIDSPortal,  it is all about empowerment, voice, participation and enhanced outcomes.

MyAIDSNexus reduces complexity to a manageable form and in a non-patronising way shows potential users what is out there, and how, in difficult circumstances, they can interact with it/them/each other. It has been specifically conceived as a way to push back the barriers to access for those in developing countries.

MyAIDSNexus will offer a single point of access to a range of useful and practical micro-services. It makes no assumptions about connectivity, bandwidth, or ownership of certain types of information device.

This means that functionality needs to remain very simple and services cannot be Internet dependent or laden with data that is difficult and expensive to move.

The intention is that many thousands of individuals will come to appreciate that MyAIDSNexus represents a convenient way for them to handle all their HIV&AIDS related information flows in a simple but highly efficient manner.

Nexus Platform

MyAIDSNexus is the first site built on AIDSPortal's Nexus Platform

Nexus was developed in response to partner demands for independent regional or thematic knowledge sharing portals. At the same time, it was important that these portals be able to communciate with one another, reducing duplication and promoting information sharing between regions and thematic focus areas.

Nexus allows different 'domains' (or independent websites) to be created on the same platform.  As such, while each domain is managed independently, and has a unique branding and layout, it uses a shared set of tools and can share content and users with other domains on the same platform.

We aim to offer partners independent domains on Nexus by the end of 2009.  This includes PortalSIDA (www.portalsida.org, run by the International AIDS Alliance), a regional knowledge sharing hub for Eastern Africa (run by EANASO) and a global thematic hub on men and masculinities (run by the MenEngage Alliance).
